Sherwood Lake is the focus of Sherwood Forest. It is about 4 acres in size and the maximum depth is about 17 feet in the Spring when it is at its fullest. Sherwood Lake is man-madecreated by Paul Stewart in the early sixties. People around Wells can still tell you stories about Mr. Stewart with his earthmoving equipment working away proclaiming to skeptics that this would be a lake. The Lake is home a wide variety of wildlife. Currently the lake has bullheads, panfish, and minnows (We are thinking about stocking it in the near future). In addition, there are a number of reptiles and amphibians: several species of turtles, frogs, and toadsas well as newts. The Lake attracts waterfowl including mallards, mergansers, and blue heron.
