About the Cottage

A rare find, once home to the last rope makers in the UK, The Old Ropery at Mill Cottage is a truly special 300-year-old English cottage, full of charm, character, and original quirky features.

Warm and welcoming, this characterful home sleeps six across three bedrooms and is designed for relaxed, country living. Pet-friendly and family-friendly, it offers a secure garden, practical tiled and wooden floors throughout the ground level, and thoughtful touches including a travel cot, high chair, toys, and plastic plates, bowls, beakers, and cutlery for little ones. It’s a place to slow down, settle in, and feel right at home.

As with many historic cottages, guests will find some delightfully quirky features throughout, including low doorways (particularly in the double bedroom) and lower ceilings in places, especially at the top of the stairs, adding to the authentic character and gentle reminders of the home’s centuries-old origins.

Enter through the key-coded gate into the secure, sun-soaked garden and step into the light-filled sunroom, which serves as the main entrance and a handy space for boots, bikes, and muddy paws after a day outdoors. To the left is the fully equipped utility room with washing machine, fridge-freezer and sink.

Continue through to the hallway, where the stairs lead to the first floor and the cottage opens up ahead. Straight on is the dining room with a natural wood table seating six. To the left, the cosy living room features soft brown leather seating, a 42” Smart TV, fibre Wi-Fi, a log-burning stove, and a well-stocked bookcase.

To the right, the bespoke kitchen flows from the dining area and includes a range cooker, microwave, coffee machine, dishwasher, and fridge.

Upstairs, the master bedroom is to the left with a king-size bed. To the right are the family bathroom with roll-top bath and separate shower, a double bedroom, and a third bedroom with adult-sized bunk beds.

Outside, enjoy the secure, child- and dog-friendly garden with seating areas and a BBQ, perfect for relaxing.
